Eight year old Vivienne Harr was inspired to take a stand against slavery and human trafficking after seeing an installion on modern day slavery by Lisa Kristine. She and her parents were deeply moved and decided to do further research on the subject. She was astounded to discover this brutal day reality – around the world slavery still exists. Human trafficking is a horrible reality.

But Vivienne was only 8 years old, what could she do? The idea to start a lemonade stand came to mind. So, she did! All the proceeds go to Not For Sale, a non-profit organization that fights for re-abolishing slavery around the world. So far, she’s raised about $50,000! Her goal is to reach $150,000 and use that money to free 500 slaves around the world. Wow!

What an inspiring story. Here are my thoughts after hearing her story:

Preteens are capable of taking action that makes a difference.
So often we don’t see the potential that young people have to change the world. They’re so capable of making a difference in their community and in the world! Caine’s Arcade is another great example (in case you aren’t aware of his story). What can you do to help the preteens in your group take positive action? How can they bring God’s love and compassion to others?

Take action now.
Many of us have ideas swimming around in our heads, but we allow fear, uncertainty or a busy schedule to stop us from taking action. Vivienne was deeply moved about modern day slavery and human trafficking. But she didn’t stop there, she actually did something about it. What idea has been resonating in your heart and mind lately? What action can you take today or this week to move forward with that idea?

Choose for today to be a good day! Take action that brings God’s love and compassion to the world around you. Lead the preteens in your group to make a difference to the world around them!
