I sometimes go for the over the top game or event that requires a lot of prep time hoping that it will be a homerun with our preteens. I’ve discovered that bigger isn’t always better. I first realized this truth at our annual retreat for 4th-6th graders. After the night time session I had some games planned. Most of them were real detailed, complex, and required a lot of prep time. I first gave them the choice of what they wanted to do. Well, they picked FINGER BLASTER WAR, which was REAL SIMPLE but fun. They played it all night and kept asking to play it over and over throughout the weekend. That was a lesson for me…bigger isn’t always better. Sometimes smaller is the way to go.
