Hot, Bold & Confident
WHY HOT, BOLD AND CONFIDENT?
Let’s face it, following Jesus can sometimes be difficult. External influences like peers, the need for approval, and the media often make it hard to follow Jesus. Preteens face tough choices at school, online and with friends. What they need is boldness and confidence to follow Jesus, which can only come from God. Hot, Bold & Confident helps preteens rely on God for boldness and confidence.
Here’s a snapshot of week 1’s message:
Let’s start off with some interesting facts about the Sun:
- The distance of the Sun from the Earth is approximately 93.5 million miles. Although the sun is this far away, light travels from the Sun to Earth in about 8 minutes and 19 second.
- The surface of the Sun, called the photosphere, has a temperature of about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The core of the sun, the hottest part, is about 27 million degrees Fahrenheit. Yikes, that’s hot!
- The energy of the sun supports almost all life on Earth.
No doubt that the sun is hot! Just think, although it is 93.5 million miles away it supports almost all of life on Earth and provides light for our planet. Wow! Our new series is called Hot, Bold and Confident. Let’s take a look at an interesting verse in the Bible, Revelation 3:15 – “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!” This verse was written to a specific church in the New Testament. Basically, the author was referring to the church (and to some of us today) as being lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. Which means that they were neither cold towards God nor hot. They were just sort of indifferent towards following God.
Our new series will focus on what it means to be hot towards God. What does that mean? It basically means we allow are hearts to become warm towards Him. We’re open to God changing us from the inside out. Like the Earth depends on the Sun, we depend on God for the power and strength to follow Jesus. And when we do that, God gives us boldness and confidence to follow Him.
