Here’s a really fun preteen ministry game, called – The Ice-Cream Head to Head Challenge.

It’s perfect for an upcoming preteen midweek/weekend service, event, or camp. You can play it inside or outside.

Watch video to see the game in action:

On a personal note, A LOT’s going in my household these days…

I really want to share more about my personal life here on this website, but all too often I get caught up in the day-to-day craziness of life to do so.

I feel like it’s important for you know who is behind PreteenMinistry.net. Who I am. Who my family is. What drives me as a human being. You know, all the good stuff.

Ok, so for those who are interested here’s what’s going on in our lives these days…

About 6 weeks ago, Jena (my wife), earned a spot in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Australia.

Only the top people who place in each 70.3 Ironman get to enter the world championships each year.

She got 4th place in the New Orleans 70.3 Ironman, which earned her a spot in the world championships in September.

For those not familiar with a 70.3 Ironman, it’s also known as a half-ironman: a 1 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and 13 mile run. Pretty insane.

So excited for her! She’s trains hard every day. She deserves it!

Just a few years ago, she didn’t even exercise at all. She’s been a living example of perseverance, discipline, goal setting, and hard work. She’s awesome!

Interesting fact: When I accompany her on a run while she’s training, I’m on a bike. My average speed on a bike is her average speed when going for a job. Crazy!

My dodgeball team made it to the semi-finals.

I play in an dodgeball league for adults in uptown New Orleans. It’s a 45 minute drive I make once a week, across a 24 mile bridge called the Causeway Bridge (I think it’s is the largest bridge over water in the U.S.).

Last season was my first and we did horrible. I think we may have won one game the entire season.

This season I played on the same team, and we miraculously did much much better.

We made it to the semi-finals, then lost to the #1 team in the league. It was a really close match that came down to the final seconds. That team went on to win the championship game.

Being a part of this dodgeball team has been awesome!

It gives me something to do outside my family, business, and church activities. It energizes and refreshes me each week.

I high encourage everyone to find a hobby or activity outside their normal bubble.

Ethan, my 14 year old, just joined a competitive tumbling team.

This tumbling thing is pretty serious. They do flips off the floor and all kind of crazy insane moves.

Most of the kids on his team have been doing this stuff since they were in diapers (or pretty close).

So, he’s one of the only newbies. He’s excited.

Joey, my 12 year old, made the A/B honor role.

Joey is a very goal oriented person. A lot like myself.

At the beginning of the school year, I told him he would get his own computer if he made the honor role. He stayed focused all year long, and accomplished that goal.

Go Joey!!

He also was recently sick from food poisoning for an entire week. He was in bed the entire time, sick as a dog. He’s much better now 🙂

Emma, my 10 year old, is just kind of hanging out these days.

Her big activity is Awana on Wednesday nights. Our church doesn’t have Awana, but there is a church nearby that has an awesome program. She loves it.

I used to think Awana was outdated, and not all that interesting. After her attending Awana for the last 2 years, my thinking has drastically shifted.

It’s the highlight of her week. She loves it!

That said, Awana wrapped up for the school year a couple of weeks ago.

So, at the moment Emma is just kind of hanging out.

All three kids start a kids triathlon group this week.

If you guessed that my wife is the inspiration on this one, you’re correct 🙂

In fact, she’s one of the coaches for the team.

As a part of the group, they’ll compete in a couple of kids triathlon this summer.

Oh, and one more random thing…

A Whole Foods just opened up nearby.

Previously, the nearest one was a 30 minute drive away. Booo!!!

Now, the new one is less than a mile away.

Oh yeah!!

It’s my favorite grocery store ever 🙂

The older I get (just turned 40), the more I get excited about goofy stuff like this.

Another example is my recent trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond. I bought a long 6 foot pillow and a SQUATTY POTTY (best invention ever). It was the highlight of my day.

Three years ago, a Whole Foods grand opening or a trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond wasn’t all that exciting.

Strange how you change as you get older.

As you can probably tell, our family is into health and fitness these days.

This is a new lifestyle for us. We’ve only been this way for a few years.

Previously, we ate a lot of unhealthy foods and didn’t exercise at all.

Progressively, a little bit at a time, we stared to exercise and eat right.

As a result, we now experience more energy and more passion for life!

Exercising and eating right is a great way to live and I highly recommend it.

If you’re still with me, thanks for reading.

Seriously, I appreciate you taking a few minutes to read this.

I hope to do more “life updates” in the future.
