About two years ago my family and I packed all our possessions into a 27 foot Uhaul and moved from New Orleans, LA, the only home we’ve known together, to San Diego, CA. My wife and three kids drove for 4 days halfway across the country to our new home. At the time, I started a new job as the Children’s Director at La Jolla Presbyterian Church.

The past two years have been exciting! Our family has adjusted well to the diverse and exquisite culture of Southern California. And I have faithfully served the preteens/kids and families at La Jolla Pres. But a new chapter now awaits us.

Over the past year, PreteenMinistry.net has grown significantly. I’ve also begun to pursue speaking opportunities at training events, conferences and camps. In order to keep up with all that, I’ve made another change. I’ve accepted a part-time position as the Children’s Pastor at Seven San Diego Church. The part-time role will allow me to have more time to invest in preteenministry.net and speaking opportunities. I feel that Seven San Diego Church is a better fit for me and the family.  My role will be a wider scope than just overseeing kid min up through 6th grade. I’ll be on the Sunday teaching team (upfront with adults); eventually oversee family/youth; and be on the core leadership team. I’ll also have the opportunity to launch a preteen ministry there. My last day at La Jolla Pres is tomorrow and first day at Seven San Diego is next Tuesday. Super excited about the opportunity to serve kids, preteens and leaders there!

I’m also  pumped up about having more time to equip preteen leaders around the world!

I’ll be at the Kidmin Conference this weekend in Chicago co-leading an 8 hour deeper learning track: Preteen Ministry That Will Knock Your Socks Off. If you’re coming to KidMin, then be sure to show up for those sessions. And be sure to look me up in between the sessions. Maybe we can grab coffee or lunch and chat preteen ministry.

For those that can’t make the conference, I plan to do some video blogging while there. My goal is to do a quick interview with some kidmin leaders and ask the question, “Why is preteen ministry important?”.
