Another important component of building a preteen ministry from scratch is vision casting.

Vision Casting

Despite the many books and conferences on the subject, a surprising amount of leaders fail to formulate and cast vision. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

What is the vision?
Brainstorm with your team, colleagues and supervisor. Pray. Write it all down. Keep it short and sweet. Make sure it is compelling and will ignite passion in your team.

Does it create movement?
Identify where preteens are at in the spiritual process when they enter your preteen ministry and where you want to be when exiting. Next, create programs to help move them along in the spiritual growth process. Every program you offer should accomplish a specific goal related to the overall vision, moving preteens from one level to the next.

Does it fall in line with the church’s vision?
Align your vision with the overall vision of the church. How is the church helping adults grow spiritually? Create the same process for kids.

How will you cast the vision?
Vision leaks, so talk about it constantly. Cast vision in staff meetings, team meetings, parent meetings, newsletters, website, letterhead and over lunch with a volunteer. Every time you are in front of a crowd of people or one-on-one, talk about it. Help every team member understand their unique contribution to the vision. Keep telling them how their specific role fits into the greater vision.

I like what you say..”talk about it” It always keeps the vision before your eyes.
