It’s summer time! Here are two free games to use this summer. Got a cool summer game you want to share? Leave a comment below and share it with us!

SLOPPY SLIP N SLIDE

Supplies: 20ft X 25ft plastic sheeting per 30 preteens (Home Depot is a great place to get them); dishwashing soap; plastic tent spikes; and hose or buckets of water. Add these items for the sloppy effect (or just go with soap): chocolate syrup, maple syrup, strawberries, whipped cream and ice cream.

Set-Up: Use the plastic tent spikes to nail down the plastic sheeting on the grass.  Put water it and lots of dishwashing soap.

Game: This is a really inexpensive way to make a homemade slip n slide.  It is a good size, much bigger than a standard slip n slide, and is lots of fun.  ust have them run and slide. You could do a contest to see who can slide the farthest or fastest.  I’ve done this at camps on many occasions and it is always a huge hit!

Variation: Put two 20ft X 25ft plastic sheets together to make it even longer. Set it up down a hill or levee for extra excitement.

WIPEOUT COMPETITION

Supplies: 2 tarps; 8 plastic stakes (to nail the tarp into the grass); 16 small pool rings; 4 extra large cans of Mushroom soup; one apple for each preteen; 2 paint rollers; dishwashing soap; water and super soakers.

Game: Each crew divides into boys and girls teams. Each team will compete for the best time. Boys on one line and girls on one line.

Set up the following obstacle course on a plastic tarp outside.  Do the competition relay style:

1. Run through pool rings (place ring on tarp with cream of mushroom soup inside)
2. Dip for an Apple (put pool between tarps-fill with water and apples- no hands)
3, Move paint roller with heads while moving on hands and knees (on tarp, dishwashing soap and water)

The team that completes the obstacle first wins. Allow everyone to finish the obstacle course so everyone gets a chance to play.

Frozen T-shirts: Fold and freeze wet, old camp tshirts or others that may be in your inventory (I used the rinse and spin cycle of my washer to get the degree of wetness I wanted). Race to see who can unfold and wear the fastest. Let preteens wear the shirts for the rest of your games on a hot day. Wash, dry, and store after event for other tshirt games. Game takes about 10 minutes.
