This is by far one of my favorite preteens games. In fact, I did this game last Sunday with Pursuit, our 4th-6th grade ministry. Here is everything you need to know.

Supplies: 1 roll of masking tape per 3 preteens and lots of cut up paper. To add variety use lots of different colored paper.

The Game: Have preteens break up into groups of three and give each group a roll of masking tape.  There are two phases to this game.

First round: On GO, teams race to use masking tape to roll-up  one player in thee group.  Be sure the sticky side is out. Have players start at their teammates ankle and go up to their arm pit. Be sure the players’ arms don’t get wrapped. They should be free to move them around. Also, be sure players don’t get wrapped to tight around their stomach and chest. The first to finish wins round one.

Second round: Teammates (and leaders) help the rolled-up player to lay down on the ground.  Help all rolled-up players to form one big square in the room.  Throw all the paper pieces in the middle of the square.  On GO, teammates roll the player in the paper.  Let preteens have lots of fun and give them a 2-5 minute time limit.  The idea is to get the most paper stuck to the “taped up” teammate.  When time is called have all the contestants go to the front of the room and one by one show off how much paper stuck to them. Have some judges vote who has the most attached to them.  Award prizes to winners or just give them a round of applause.

Tips:

  • Players have to roll their teammate in the paper to stick it on them.  They cannot simply stick it on them themselves.
  • Take pictures, you’re going to have some great Kodak moments.
  • Have leaders with safety scissors to help preteens get the masking tape off when the game is over.

Variation:

  • Use other items besides paper.  Some ideas: Q-Tips, pennies, cotton balls, etc.

So what biblical lesson are you teaching with this game?

It can be used simply as an icebreaker or at a relationl event. But could also be used with this Biblical theme: sin has a way of sticking to you if not dealt with.
